Meet Finnlee and Mike Hanson

Volunteers are very legitimately the back bone of Home County. We are incredibly thankful for the massive number of people who give up their time to help us put on the Festival. Each month, we want to take the time to honour these amazing people.

One of the most beautiful parts of Home County is how many families we see around the Park, enjoying the music, eating incredible food and shopping at our diverse number of vendors. But families aren't just coming to Home County...they're also spending time volunteering together at the Festival. One such family is the Hanson's - meet Finnlee and Mike, our February Volunteers of the Month.

The Hanson family moved to London in the fall of 2016. They enjoyed the Festival for a two years before deciding to jump in and volunteer. Mike started at Home County 2019 and Finnlee joined him last year - and made a HUGE impression on all of us. Mike has volunteered for Aeolian Hall and said he appreciates the way volunteering connects him to the London Community.

Mike has volunteered in a few areas at Home County including security, vendor services, main stage support and merchandising. Finnlee volunteered his time as the Food Vendor support superstar. You more than likely noticed him speedwalking along food truck alley - acting as a conduit between the vendors and our admin trailer. We would have liked to see his step count after his shifts!

When asked what his favourite part of being a Home County Volunteer is, Mike said, "There’s an energy and excitement in the air that’s very invigorating. Seeing all the people enjoy the shows is a bonus. And of course, it feels good to know you’re giving back."

And as for his most memorable moment? Mike said it was working in the merch tent while William Prince met with many of his fans, hearing them express the pleasure the music brought to their lives. Finnlee loved the connections he made with the food vendors - and we know that the food vendors also felt that special connection.

Finnlee and Mike - thank you for taking time out of your busy summer to volunteer with us at Home County. You're an amazing reminder that volunteers of any age can make a huge difference. We look forward to seeing you in July!
